10 April, 2009

I am sitting in a room full of wooden circles and chairs possibly pushed in but generally left like a lover in the morning, disheveled and forgotten about previous comfort levels and impressive positions.

There is occasional screaming at stretched-out screen hung on wall
where men in striped polyester suits with last name on wide backs
and chewing tobacco chews cheeks away
and receding hairlines hide beneath caps
and bats are swung at balls instead of wives (this time)
and grass is sewn into earth to present feeling of america and crackerjack salutations
and protection is placed against men’s favorite external skin genes
and I wonder whybaseball never excited me very much.

Has the season begun?

Reminds me of when I used to go to bars specifically during these times (basketball, baseball, football), where drunk stubble stretched across men’s faces,
competing with body paint exclaiming home team and how many beers they’ve had.

Paint can slur into pores.

I never understood the point system or why five minutes lasted two hours or how spandex can cause every body type to appear bloated and confused.
Nevertheless, I savored in their excitement. Sometimes I even screamed with them.

WHAT??!! NO!!! GRAB THE BALL!!!!! FOCUS!! WHAT THE F#$% REF!!!

The closest I came to be a dignified and dedicated sports watcher was when I was much, much younger and found my eyes glued to the television screen when the Olympics were on during gymnastics and ice skating. Mary Lou Retton and all the other young girls with no breast tissue from too much exercising. And the ice skaters with glittered leotards and sharp toes.

THAT WAS ATHLETIC!

Now, I watch others watch from afar.

I’ve been to a few bars during Superbowl and still find more excitement in the chicken wings and cheap beer than the actual sport of football.

Now, a commercial break has interrupted the hollers and excitement. And I get lost inside shapes.
Other
noise.

Are you looking for some noise? Excitement? Creative movement on imagined fields shaped as a stage?

THEN COME TO FOLSOM STREET COFFEE CO. ON THURSDAY APRIL 9TH AT 8PM FOR THE east coast open mic series WHERE WE OFFER THE STAGE AND VOLUME AND LIST TO PLACE YOUR NAME AGAINST AND YOU GIVE US SOMETHING WORTH WATCHING!!

Will I see you there?

Aimee.
