Erotica Writing Workshop: Moving Beyond Cliche
a two part writing series with Aimee Herman
Sun Dec 5, 3 – 6pm &
Sun Dec 12, 3 – 6pm

Erotica, defined as literature meant to inspire one’s sexual desire, arouses senses toward stimulation. It stems from the Greek word, Eros meaning desire. The spectrum of erotica is vast and always evolving with the use of experimental voices, language, and the various sub-genres within it. Through writing prompts and dialogue, we will work toward the creation of scenarios and stories that illuminate the erotic voice. In this two week workshop, writers get a short overview of an assortment of authors and performers who have built some of the steamiest, experimental scenes through poetry and prose. As we read/listen to samples of text, we begin to explore our own interpretations of sexy, erotic writing. Prompts will be used to fuel the erotic mind. Everyday objects such as a jar of peanut butter that can break down the walls of the cliche and move one’s pen toward something progressively sexy. We will also focus on language—the forbidden nature of words and how to find comfort within the discourse of erotica.
