meant to wake up feeling front cover

Visceral, insistent, beyond transgressive, meant to wake up feeling does just that. It is a palpable writing of the body in Hélène Cixious’s demanding and powerful sense of the act. Gratitude to Aimee Herman for getting under our skin, and moving poetry-in-discourse into the feminist present and future where we study and yearn for the salvation of humanity.
—ANNE WALDMAN, author of Gossamurmur and The Iovis Trilogy

In this two day workshop, we will create experiments on the page through spills, cut-ups (inspired by William S. Burroughs) and various prompts leading us out of conventional language and into hybrid dialects. Where is the urgency of your words? How often do you color outside of the lines with your poetics. We will stretch out the margins and encourage each other to break out of our habits. This class will also offer students the opportunity to practice reading their creations out loud. What is the dialect of your performance? How do you want to be heard? This workshop will include peer discussion and feedback. There will be an optional trip after class on Sunday to Parkside Lounge for great weather for MEDIA’s open mic.

I’m deeply excited to perform at the International Women’s Art Salon at Dixon Place and celebrate the theme of body hair (something I know quite a bit about…..).

Come to this free show featuring other talented folks in the disciplines of literature, dance, theatre and music.

Dixon Place / 161 Chrystie St. NYC / 7-8pm

you will be remembered.

Sometimes the past must remind us to remember what resides in our present. And when we lose someone who is present, it can be a knock against our minds to get louder and not forget. Maggie Estep was a writer who inspired me to scream. Her poetry and prose lead me to fill pages and call out my language onto as many stages as I could find.

You will be missed, Poet.
